SOP
The aim of our Student Outreach Program is to increase the college attendance rates of students of low-income background. It is to help get high school students motivated and excited about college. This past year, we brought 50 selected high school students from all throughout Orange County to UCSB; allowing them to experience the campus first hand!The Experience
Volunteers from our club showed these students around our beautiful campus and held workshops and discussion groups to help answer any questions they may have had about applying for college or college life in general. Keynote speakers Jeremy Tran and Joe Charles were invited to give presentations to the students!
Jeremy Tran is considered a legend in his hometown of Westminster, CA as he was one of the contestants on the ABC reality show “The Scholar” and graduated from Harvard University on a $20,000 scholarship. He is now an attorney at the Century City office of O’Melveny & Myers, LLP.
Joe Charles is a Los Angeles based Cinematographer and is the house videographer for LA fashion week, Miss Asia Global, and has worked on Golden Bridge. We work very hard to ensure the students have a great experience with the outreach program and we keep in touch with the students in case they have any further questions regarding college.
The Application
Application will be open from 01/27/15 until 03/20/15 at 11:55PM.
If you plan to screen shot your answers or print out the application and take a picture to email us, PLEASE make sure that your answers are legible. Otherwise, fill out the online application which will be directly sent to our email.
Students will be selected based off of various criteria including school year (this program is generally geared towards sophomores and juniors), depth of responses and involvements within and outside of school.
